Louise Mensch, British blogger, novelist, journalist, and former Conservative Member of UK Parliament, woke up yesterday and chose violence. She decided her integrity required her outing a fellow journalist, Eva Bartlett, Canadian activist, commentator, and blogger, on Twitter, who Mensch politically opposes, to the Ukrainian Special Forces. Bartlett is currently boots on the ground in Ukraine, and Mensch has the option to sip lattes from her New York City penthouse.
I have seen some horrific tweets but this person, an American, Louise Mensch calling for a murder of a journalist is beyond despicable.
It is unacceptable and should be reported to federal law enforcement. Please report her tweet to @TwitterSafety to get her banned. Please pic.twitter.com/R8IdXzj0p1— Tara Reade š (@ReadeAlexandra) August 1, 2022
There is no secret that journalists have viewpoints. While I might be at odds with a person like Tucker Carlson, I would rather debate him than malign him. Readers, of course, will have an entirely different view.
Journalistic integrity, in my opinion, has more to do with your ability to argue your point than whether or not I agree with it. A good journalist will have you scratching your head and wondering if your current understanding is correct.
A bad journalist will spew viewpoints, like Alex Jones. One ceases to have credibility as a journalist when one’s opinions override the actual story
It is true that boots on the ground journalism can be very dangerous. Trying to tell a story on a conflict zone can have deadly consequences, and we recently saw with Shireen Abu Akleh, killed while reporting on the Palestinian/Israeli clashes.
Whether or not you agree with Shireen’s reporting, she put herself in a conflict zone in an attempt to clarify a certain situation. Many might remember Anderson Cooper’s war reporting.
Regardless of who it is, or what their viewpoint, these journalists literally risk their lives to tell you a story.
That is why I am so utterly disgusted by the behavior of Mensch. What she did was reckless, dangerous, and frankly quite evil.
This isnāt about politics. This is about ordering a hit onĀ someone in her own profession because of her political beliefs. The Ukraine Special Forces could very well decide to execute her for her stance.
Have we become so partisan that we could applaud this behavior, or should we call it out for the disgusting, vile behavior that it is?
Louise Menschā¦you shame journalism. You shame the human race.
